LED Light Therapy
LED Light Therapy is a very effective treatment for acne by targeting the bacteria that causes Acne. The light effectively kills the bacteria therefore stopping any further outbreaks and clearing up the skin.
LED light therapy treatment is effective, affordable and pain-free
Four common causes of adolescent and adult acne include:
- Increased oil production
- Unusual shedding of dead skin cells
- Increased bacteria
- Inflammation
LED light therapy address these issues when it comes to mild/moderate acne, acne scars, skin care for acne, and even severe acne in some cases. Blue Light therapy and Red light therapy alone can be used to target acne and acne scars. However, when Blue light therapy and red light therapy are used in conjunction with each other; they are much more effective at targeting inflammatory acne. In some cases, Blue light is used on its own. As a standalone, Blue light is also usually most effective when used to activate 5-aminolevulinic Acid (ALA) during photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment resistant acne.
During the process of blue light therapy, the skin is exposed to Blue light (420nm), which is quickly absorbed by acne-causing bacteria. Molecules within the bacteria then react by producing singlet oxygen and free radicals that in-turn destroy the P. Acnes bacteria (cannot survive when exposed to oxygen. Once the body has been exposed to Blue light, the use of Red light therapy helps to restore normal cellular function and promotes healthy skin rejuvenation. The process is the same for the treatment of acne scars when targeting both adolescent and adult acne needs. Severe acne is often treated using a more aggressive treatment such as 5-aminolevulinic Acid (ALA) during photodynamic therapy (PDT). In order to maintain health skin, a topical skin care for acne is also recommended.
Blue LED |
Blue light (wavelength 405nm-420nm) provides a very superficial penetration even with a high-intensity narrowband light source. It is primarily absorbed by the epidermis of the skin. Once it is absorbed, blue light targets P. acnes (breeds under anaerobic conditions) by stimulating porphyrins which then produce intracellular singlet oxygen and thus inducing bacterial death. Blue light treatment is a natural, effective skin rejuvenation technique, and can be used to activate PDT, or photodynamic therapy.
Red LED |
Red Light Therapy (wavelength 630nm-640nm) penetrates human tissue superficially, with approximately 80% of the energy being absorbed in the first 2cm. Red light energy has a significant effect on mitochondrial stimulation, which increases the production of ATP (cellular energy source) and in turn boosts fibroblast activity. This leads to an increase in cellular turnover, superficial circulation, and an anti-inflammatory emission.
